There are several types of irrigation systems, each suited to different garden styles, plantings, and budgets. Here are the options available:
Drip Irrigation
Drip irrigation delivers water slowly and directly to the base of plants through a network of tubes and emitters. It’s efficient, reduces water waste, and keeps foliage dry—helpful in preventing mould and plant disease. This is ideal for borders, vegetable beds, or container gardens where precise watering is needed .
Soaker Hose
A soaker hose is a porous hose that seeps water evenly along its length, allowing the soil to absorb moisture gradually. It’s simple to install, perfect for borders, hedges, and vegetable beds, and works well under a layer of mulch for minimal evaporation .
Sprinkler Systems
Sprinkler systems spray water across a wide area, mimicking rainfall. They’re great for lawns or large open spaces but can be less efficient in windy conditions or when watering dense borders, as water may land on foliage and paths where it’s less needed. Pop-up sprinklers can be buried for a neat finish, or portable sprinklers can be moved as required .
Micro‑Spray or Micro‑Jet Systems
These low-flow systems sit between sprinklers and drip irrigation, delivering gentle sprays of water over shorter distances. They are ideal for delicate flowers, pots, or closely spaced planting areas that need light, frequent watering.
